Colorado 2007 model vs 2008
How well a canoe goes in a straight line is called tracking or how well a canoe tracks. Now reading online, particually on this thread on the excellent Song of the Paddle forum, is todo with how Sevylor have dealt with tracking.
On the 2007 model the Sevylor have relied on two large directional fins or strakes on the bottom of the boat. With the 2008 model they have made these smaller (I presume this is to help it fold / pack more easily) and added a mount for a skeg (a big fin, a bit like a small keel) on the bottom of the boat.
Due to the positon on the bottom of the boat it is not that suprising to hear that people are occasionally losing them when they go into shallow water / pass over a submerged object.
If you don’t fit the skeg on the 2008 model it has been reported that the boat can be a pest to get tracking straight. Fortunatly you can help fix this with a side mounted skeg (this will be covered on the skegs page).
